Recess collects nothing about you.
This Privacy Policy explains how Recess, operated by Codeful, handles your information. The short version: your data stays on your device, Recess reads your calendar read-only, and there are no analytics or tracking SDKs. Questions: support@vibeland.app.

Short version: Recess has no account and no servers. Your calendar is read on-device, read-only — Recess never changes it. There are no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, so the App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.
1. What Recess accesses
1.1 Calendar (read-only, on-device)
If you connect your calendar, Recess reads your events to show where your free time is. This happens entirely on your device. Recess never writes to your calendar, and your events are never transmitted off the device.
1.2 What you create in the app
- Recess you claim — the open time you set aside for yourself (a walk, a soak, a read), its kind, and whether you marked it tended.
- Your recess kinds & preferences — the kinds of rest you choose and small settings (week start, reminders on/off, character, current world).
1.3 Collected automatically
- Analytics / advertising — none. No third-party SDK is embedded; no cross-app tracking.
- Device identifiers — none assigned to your install.
- The only telemetry — a single on-device, aggregate, non-identifying counter (e.g. whether a first recess was claimed) used to improve the app. It is not tied to your identity and is not sold or shared.
- Diagnostics — only Apple’s crash reports, and only if you opted in via iOS Settings. No third-party crash SDK.
1.4 What Recess does not collect
- No account or sign-in — there is no user profile on our servers, because there are no servers.
- No location, contacts, microphone, photos, or health data.
- No advertising and no tracking across apps or sites.
2. How your data is used
| Purpose | Data used |
|---|---|
| Show where your free time is | Calendar events (read-only, on-device) |
| Run the garden on your device | The recess you claim & your preferences |
| Sync across your own devices (optional) | Your private iCloud database |
| Show your day in the widget | Read from the shared App Group, on device |
| Reply to support requests | Email and details you send |
We do not sell or rent your data. We do not use your data to train any AI model. Recess calls no AI service and no analytics service.
3. Where your data lives
- Primary storage: an on-device SwiftData store in Recess’s App Group container (
group.app.codeful.recess). It never leaves your device unless iCloud sync is enabled. - iCloud (optional): with iCloud enabled, Recess syncs the same data to your private CloudKit database (
iCloud.app.codeful.recess). Only your iCloud account can read it; we have no server-side copy. - Widget: the Home-Screen widget reads from the shared App Group container; it transmits nothing.
- Your calendar: read-only. Recess never writes to it.
4. Third-party services
Recess uses only Apple-provided system services. No third-party SDKs are bundled.
| Service | Purpose | Where data lives |
|---|---|---|
| Apple EventKit | Read your calendar (read-only) | Apple / your device |
| Apple CloudKit (private DB) | Sync your data across your own devices | Apple (your private DB) |
| Apple UserNotifications | Gentle local reminders | Local only |
| Apple WidgetKit | Render the Home-Screen widget | Apple system process / device |
| Apple StoreKit | Process Recess Pro purchases | Apple infrastructure |
5. Retention
- On-device data — kept until you delete items or uninstall. Uninstalling removes the local store.
- iCloud data — kept while sync is on and Recess is installed; Apple controls the underlying iCloud retention.
- Purchase receipts — held by Apple; Recess checks entitlement on demand and stores no receipts server-side.
6. Your rights
- Delete — remove any recess in the app; uninstall removes all local data.
- Delete iCloud copy — iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Recess.
- Revoke Calendar access — iOS Settings → Recess → Calendars.
EU/UK (GDPR) and California (CCPA) residents have rights to access, delete, correct, and limit sharing. Because Recess runs no server-side account, there is no personal data on our side to request — most rights are exercised directly on your device.
7. Children
Recess is rated 4+ and suitable for all ages, but is not directed at children under 13 (16 in the EU) and collects no data server-side from anyone.
8. Security
On-device data is protected by iOS data protection (encrypted at rest while locked). iCloud transfers are encrypted by Apple. Keep your device passcode strong and your Apple ID secured with two-factor authentication.
9. Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves; material changes are posted here at least 30 days before taking effect.
